Regathering starting March 14th

updated: March 3rd, 2021

We are excited to say that we will be regathering again for church-in-person on March 14th at 10:00 AM! The regathering team met recently and determined that the Covid-19 pandemic risk for our church is low enough to allow in-person worship services.

As we meet in-person again we will continue to stream our worship service on YouTube and Facebook.

We know this past year has been difficult in many ways, and not meeting in person has been a tough pivot for us all. But I am so proud of you, church, for your steadfast resilience and your desire to love one another and love your neighbor as you follow Jesus. I've seen the best in you.

My invitation to you to meet together again is for anyone who feels safe to meet in-person. It is for anyone who needs to see others and be seen. The invitation is for anyone who desires community. It is for anyone who has only experienced us during the past year online and wants to meet people for the first time that they have only seen on the small screen. If you are choosing to stay at home, know that the Shepherds and I affirm your decision and encourage you to stay engaged with Church Online and stay connected to your small group. You are loved just the same as anyone else.

When we regather, we will still require masks, and we will practice physical distancing, but none of those things can dull Jesus' love for us and the increasing glory of God’s command to love Him and others and reach the next generation for Jesus. We will practice good hospitality in welcoming each other and the stranger. May these truths warm our hearts as we gather together and gather near the throne room of God in the kingdom of heaven.

My family and I are looking forward to seeing you soon on March 14th. I love you, Littleton Church.

January 26th, 2021

At Littleton Church, our leadership is conscientious about preventing the spread of Covid-19 in our local community and church body. From the beginning of the pandemic, we have chosen to make our decisions for re-gathering to be informed by CDC and Tri-County health guidelines for churches. Not every church makes the same decision but both those who choose to meet in-person or online are governed by Godly men and women who are trying their best to meet the needs of their local body of believers.

We have also assembled a re-gathering team consisting of medical professionals and scientists who are helping us to choose what is best for our church.

Early polling from our congregation indicated that the majority of our church has a hesitancy to re-gather.

We desire to meet in person again soon. We miss seeing our church family in person. You have been so patient and understanding during this difficult time and are to be commended for your continued support, understanding, and faithfulness.

Thank you.

Regathering Update August 23rd

Hello Church family,

We miss seeing you all in person and look forward to the time when we can meet together again on Sunday mornings. As we continue to navigate this pandemic, I’d like to share with you a little bit about what we’re doing as a leadership team to assess and plan for an eventual regathering for Sunday morning indoor worship services.

The leadership and shepherds have asked me to form a committee of church members to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Some of the responsibilities of this committee include staying up to date on the latest guidelines and orders given by the CDC, state, and local governments; to look at studies regarding the transmission of the virus and the resulting short and long term health effects; and to give periodic updates and recommendations to the leadership and shepherds about when it would be appropriate to regather safely for indoor Sunday morning worship services and how to implement the regathering process.

As many of us have seen over the past several months, there is a lot of differing information floating around regarding the pandemic. We believe that forming this committee from members of our church who are seasoned medical and healthcare professionals and expert scientists in their fields would be the best and most objective way to look at and filter through this information. This also allows for us to make the most appropriate and informed decisions as it applies to our specific congregation in this current situation.

I recently had a discussion with an expert scientist and member of the Littleton church, Alex Huffman, who studies the airborne transmission of aerosols. He has been spending a lot of his time recently studying the airborne transmission of COVID-19. One thing he said in that conversation that really stuck out to me in terms of how it affects our congregation is that “group singing indoors is the most dangerous thing people can do right now,” as it relates to the risk of transmission of the virus.  As many of us know, our rich tradition of congregational singing is perhaps the biggest component of our assemblies, making churches of Christ possibly even more susceptible to transmission risk compared to other church denominations. It is because of critical  information like this that we have continued to choose not to regather at this time.

All this to say, our mission has been and will continue to be “to love God and to go love people.” I am thankful that we have been able to consistently do both of these things through the creative continuation of all of our various ministries and online worship services. Our decision to hold off on regathering on Sunday mornings inside the building comes from a place of demonstrating our love for each other by not putting our church at any unnecessary health risk. We will not rush this process or try to regather before it is safe for our particular congregation to do so, based on the information we have. We have adapted to the current situation and will continue to adapt and come up with creative ways to fellowship with and serve one another, not unlike the Christian church has done during times of persecution and difficulty throughout its history.

We are all in this together, and together, we will love each other through it.

Tim Byrne - Worship minister

Indoor Regathering for July 19th Postponed Until Further Notice

I just want to thank you as a congregation for being flexible and understanding during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were planning to have an in-person indoor regathering this Sunday, July 19. These plans were subject to change as we monitored the latest news on positive cases for our state and country. Positive cases are on the rise in our state and through much prayer, advice, and conversations we have decided to postpone our in-door regathering until further notice. We will not meet in person this Sunday, July 19th.

We will re-evaluate in 4 weeks on August 16th. In-door services increase the possibility of infection and possible outbreaks especially for those among us who are most vulnerable. We believe the decision to not to meet indoors and to continue to meet online for Sunday morning service is in-line with our commitment to love God and love people.

We will continue to offer Sunday morning Bible classes for kids and one adult class via Zoom. Our Children’s Ministry is hosting some events with precautions in place for safety. Our Student Ministry will continue to hold outdoor meetings. Outdoor meetings significantly reduce the chances of infection and outbreak. We will also continue to host Prayer & Praise gatherings at this time every other week in the West parking lot.

I want to thank all of you that RSVP’d for our indoor service. I know this may be disappointing to you, but I am encouraged by your support of the work God is doing in our church. Your prayers and your eagerness to be engaged with God’s work at Littleton Church is encouraging.

I also want to thank all of you for engaging with us online, for volunteering with Food Bank, throwing drive through birthday parties, participating in meal trains, for sending cards of encouragement. This season is one of the most difficult seasons I’ve ever been through. I could not do this without you, and we could not endure this crisis without one another.

This weekend I’m beginning a new series called One Another. The passage of scripture I’ll be preaching from is Romans 12:9-10. “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
Be devoted to one another with brotherly love. You are all vitally important to the plans of God. We will not only get through this we will be better through faith in Jesus our Lord, together.

Grace & Peace,

Jovan Barrington
Senior Minister

We have made the decision to have our worship service ONLINE ONLY for this Sunday, March 15th. We will not have Bible classes or our worship gathering at our building this Sunday. PROTECTING THE FLOCK AND BEING COMMUNITY FOCUSED

We believe this allows us to be socially responsible and become one with our community by focusing on working on containment together. It also allows us to protect the most vulnerable, at risk members of our church.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  1. Pray.

    • Pray for protection from infection, containment of the outbreak, and healing for those infected.

    • Pray for provision for those who have lost income and money due to cancelled trips and events.

    • Pray for courage and hope.

  2. For communication purposes please sign up to our LC Newsletter to be added to our email list.

  3. Watch us online.

  4. If you are a part of small group please take precautions if you plan on meeting. Many small groups have decided not to meet for an indefinite period of time.

  5. Check in with people regularly.

    • Call someone at church to see how they are doing and if they have any needs.

    • Be intentional, we encourage you to use video messaging apps like Facetime and Skype to see each other. Community is critically import and being able to see those you love makes a difference.

    • Consider creating a text group to share prayer requests or have a morning or evening check in. Sharing stories combats loneliness and builds community.

    • Keep up with your neighbors. There may be someone who needs to know that they are not alone and there are people who care for them and want to help. As followers of Jesus, this is one of our greatest strengths, if there are neighbors or friends that we can pray for, send encouragement cards to, or offer a call of support, please let us know. We want to be a light and a comfort in this challenging time.

  6. Send us your prayer requests online or via email.

  7. Switch to online giving. Even though we will not be gathering Sunday the ministries of the Littleton Church must continue.

  • To ensure that our vibrant ministries are funded and that we continue to be a blessing to our community make provisions to give online.

  • You can give generously through the church app, online, or mail your tithes and offerings to Littleton Church of Christ, 6495 S. Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121.

  • This is season not to shrink back but lean forward and give generously. People need you.

SEEKING GOD’S WISDOM

Proverbs 22:3 speaks wisdom for a time like this one:

"The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty."

We believe offering online services only is a wise choice. This decision comes from a place of deep love for God, our church family, and our neighbors. Although it pains us not to meet it would bring us great sorrow to know that our meeting caused someone else the pain of infection.

RESOURCES

There are many questions about what to do if you feel you have symptoms. We suggest following the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CPHE) that can be found here https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/2019-novel-coronavirus.   We also know that words like pandemic and quarantine can be overwhelming.  It can be difficult to know when you should go to your physician, but we encourage you to follow the guidance set up by CPHE.

CONTACT US FOR PRAYER

We want to also pray and offer comfort to you our members during this time.  With schools closed or closing and events cancelling, fear can easily become the driver of our thoughts. In those moments, if you would like to pray with someone,  please email Jovan and we will share your prayer request with the prayer ministry and coordinate with an elder to follow up. Prayer is foundational to our faith and we know it makes a difference.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the Littleton Church leadership. If you become infected and/or have to be quarantined please email our senior minister Jovan Barrington here.  Please do not hesitate to reach out if you are experiencing financial hardship or are in need of supplies.
